Quarantine Blog, Day Forty-Nine

I used to do this dopey little news show on the internet.

For a while it was called “Stinko News,” then I changed it to “A News Show, A Show About The News.”

The original name brought a lot of confusion on what exactly was going on. And I never really felt like it was going to be taken seriously.

After a long break, then a name change, the episodes lost their excitement.

Or, maybe, I just lost excitement for making it.

That’s probably more likely to be it, huh.

All of that being said, I wrote a new script today. For a new form of the news show.

A better one. That just maybe you’ll get to learn about sometimes.

It was brought on by my new love of Aaron Sorkin’s show “Newsroom,” on HBO.

We’ll see if it ever comes to the light of day.

IF it does, I’ll talk about it here. I promise.

.

Anywho! It’s Cinco De Mayo!

I’ve been doing well these past few days in cutting back on alcohol intake. So today isn’t as rambunctious as it could have been. One drink at around 5:00. Another starting around 7:30.

The second had ingredients dropped off by some dear friends, Allix and Harold.

A small brown paper bag, with pretty tissue paper working as decoration, was the package of delivery.

In it, three limes, a grapefruit, and some grapefruit juice, along with a recipe for a Poloma.

I’ll share that recipe here, in case you’re interested. You don’t have to be. But come on in and enjoy the fun how ’bout?

What you’ll need:

  • Kosher Salt
  • Grapefruit Wedge
  • 2 oz Grapefruit Juice
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 tsp Sugar (optional)
  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 2 oz Club Soda

How To Be Your Own Bartender

You’ve gathered all of your ingredients? Good. From there, you should pour some salt on a plate. Don’t use too much. No need to waste it. Put a little bit back in! There you go. That’ll do it.

Now, rub half the rim of your glass with the grapefruit wedge, and dip the glass into the plated salt. Now you’ve got salt on your glass, good job. No no! Don’t wash it! That’s how it’s supposed to be, silly!

After that, mix together the grapefruit juice, lime juice, and optional sugar into a glass until the sugar is dissolved, or until you’re happy with your creation. You’ll know when.

Stir in the tequila, add ice, and top with soda water. Garnish with the grapefruit and lime to feel like you’re royalty on some new kind of island. An island without any pandemics! Wouldn’t that be nice!

There you go! That’s a drink that you can drink! And it really doesn’t take much at all.

So thanks, Allix and Harold. For the fruit and juice that lead to a delicious drink for the night. I appreciate you and the rest of my friends that I’m not able to celebrate with today.

I hope you all had a good holiday. Let’s look forward to maybe getting to celebrate the next holiday together.
