Wes Anderson graced the living room television screen again today.
This time playing Grand Budapest Hotel; the first time I’ve had the pleasure of watching it through.
For the past five years of hearing about the film, and slowly working my way through Wes Anderson’s repertoire, I thought that Dev Patel was one of the staring players.
I’m not sure why I always thought this. As I dig into this thought that I thunk, I think that at some point “Slumdog Millionaire” translated in my head to “Grand Budapest Hotel.” Yes, I’m quite aware that’s daft and has absolutely no grip on to how someone’s mind should work. What about it.
Anyway, it was a hell of a ride, Grand Budapest.
There were cameos from Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, and Jason Schwartzman for crying out loud. And they each had only a handful of lines that snipped right by, making you miss them as soon as they were gone.
The stars of the film itself, Tony Revolori (who it took me until near the end of it all to realize was the current actor for Flash in the new Spider-Man movies) and Ralph Fiennes, felt perfectly suited for an Anderson film.
They both talked just fast enough and with quite the right amount of diction.
And do we even need to talk about Saoirse Ronan? She’s just been all over the place these last few years. Oscar season after Oscar season.
It’s true.
I’m a Wes Anderson fan.
Even though I haven’t caught all of his films.
Can’t I still like an artist’s work?
